Students in grades 5th – 8th may serve their community as altar servers. Their commitment to reverent action within the scope of the Holy Mass is a tribute to their understanding of what is truly going on at the altar. SMG students come to us with a firm foundation of faithfulness, which is built upon by their teachers for them to truly live their faith through meaningful and purposeful service to the Church and the SMG community.
The Student Sacristan Program allows 8th Grade Students to train in the Sacristan Ministry for the School Masses. These ideal candidates will have been serving as an altar server and demonstrate a commitment to reverence and understanding of the Eucharistic celebration. Students wishing to serve as a sacristan will complete an application and obtain at least three recommendations. Training begins in the summer. These students must arrive at 7:30 a.m. to prepare for the School Mass and receive their assigned duties on the Priest and Sacristan Schedule from the Parish Office. Additionally, it is expected that these students will continue to serve the parish a minimum of one year beyond their training and 8th Grade year.
